Adding in the additional players for the double sheriff aspect also means that more bags are being opened and more fun is had all around. It throws out optimal strategy for high risk and high reward plays. It adds a ton to replays and makes risks much more rewarding. When you add in the expansion, however, everything starts to change.īecause the expansion is 5 different things that you can add in and remove as you see fit. This means the optimal strategy is the least fun and leads for some very boring games. When everyone else is sheriff, goading them into opening things as often as you can to sabotage other players. Which means playing the game more than once a session is simply not in your favor.Īs the sheriff you let everything pass while trying to collect as many bribes as possible. The best strategy to win is to pass as much contraband you can the first round and be flat honest every round there after. It was a good time pretending to fill roles as sneaky smugglers and tyrannical sheriffs, and so if you like games that are heavy on social interaction, a bit of role play, and trickery, then this could be a really great game for your group. I did, however, get the feeling that if we had played again we would have even more fun than before. Once we were playing, it was a good time, though we probably would have had more fun if we were even closer friends to begin with (we only know each other a little bit even though we all get along really well and have fun whenever we can find the time), so I left feeling like it could have been more fun had we not been working against a bit of social unfamiliarity.

It took a bit to get the nuance of the rules and incentives figured out (we had to have a full debate on why anyone would bribe the sheriff, for example) before we were comfortable with jumping in. We broke it out since I had heard that it was fun, though none of them had heard of it. I went to the local game store about two weeks ago with my wife and our couple-friends. Skull if you want something simple (and potentially lots of people playing) and Modern Art for something a little meatier. If you picked a) to these questions then it will probably be fun! But in my opinion Skull or Modern Art are better games in the same space. Has this group played any social deduction games based partly on bluffing or lying before? Skull? Werewolf? Mafia? Secret Hitler? Did it a) go well or did it b) go badly?.How likely are the participants to enjoy talking in silly voices or OUTRAGEOUS accents? a) Cheerful and spontaneous or b) no way, never, stare in lap instead?.If someone in the game were to say "BOOM! In your face! It can be great with a loose group that knows each other well and are comfortable with each other.
